One of the first questions families ask me is, “When should we schedule senior pictures?”
There is no single perfect month for every senior. The best timing depends on your senior’s schedule, preferred season, activities, wardrobe, and how you plan to use the finished portraits.
Fallin Photography is based in Noblesville and photographs high school seniors throughout Carmel, Westfield, Fishers, and Hamilton County. Because Indiana gives us four distinct seasons, each part of the year offers something different.
Summer is a great option for seniors who want more flexibility before the school year becomes busy.
The days are longer, school schedules are lighter, and seniors often have more freedom to plan multiple locations and outfits. Summer is also a good choice if you want portraits ready early in the school year.
Indiana summers offer lush greenery, flowers, urban locations, and beautiful evening light. The tradeoff is heat and humidity, which we consider when choosing the session time and planning outfits.

Fall is always one of the most popular seasons for senior portraits in Indiana.
The temperatures are usually more comfortable, and fall offers beautiful color, texture, and wardrobe options. Sweaters, jackets, boots, and layered outfits can add variety without overwhelming the senior.
Fall schedules fill quickly, especially around sports, homecoming, college visits, and school activities. If fall is your first choice, it is best to reserve your session well in advance rather than waiting until the leaves begin to change.
Winter can be a wonderful choice for seniors who want something a little different.
Urban settings, architectural locations, dramatic sports portraits, and studio-style images can all work beautifully during the colder months. Winter sessions can feel polished, editorial, and distinctive when they are planned intentionally.
Indiana weather is unpredictable, so winter sessions may require more flexibility.
Spring is ideal for seniors who want fresh color, flowering trees, cap and gown portraits, or a final celebration close to graduation.
The biggest challenge with waiting until spring is timing. The weather can be inconsistent, spring calendars become crowded, and families often need photographs for graduation announcements.
If you want a full senior session in the spring, I recommend scheduling early enough to allow time for your session, ordering appointment, and finished products.

Most families should begin looking for a senior photographer during the junior year.
Booking early does not mean you need every detail planned immediately. It simply gives you a better choice of dates and enough time to create a session that feels personal.
When we begin planning, we consider:
Senior year moves quickly. Planning ahead allows the portrait experience to feel exciting instead of becoming one more deadline.

Fallin Photography creates personalized senior portraits for students throughout Noblesville, Carmel, Westfield, Fishers, and Central Indiana. Every session is planned around the senior so the finished images feel polished, authentic, and completely personal.
